Can you watch the Singapore Grand Prix without buying an F1 ticket? Yes, you can!

Every year, Formula 1 takes over the streets of Singapore, turning the Marina Bay area into one of the world’s most exciting street circuits.
But F1 tickets can be expensive, especially if you’re travelling with family or just want to experience the excitement for a little while.
The good news? There are places around Marina Bay where you can actually see F1 cars racing without purchasing a ticket.
The tricky part is finding them.
If you’ve searched for free Singapore F1 viewing spots online, you’ve probably come across recommendations from previous years. But are those locations still accessible in 2026? Can you really see the cars, or will you end up staring at a fence?
I wanted to find out for myself.
So, during the 2026 Singapore Grand Prix weekend, I visited several popular free viewing locations on October 9, with a stroller and my one-year-old son. I also checked the National Gallery on October 8.
Some spots were fantastic. Others didn’t work at all.
Here’s what I found, including actual viewing conditions, crowd levels, and which places are worth visiting.
Quick Answer: Where Can You Watch Singapore F1 for Free in 2026?
After checking several locations around Marina Bay, Marina Square was easily the best place I found to watch the Singapore Grand Prix for free.
These are the three locations where I could actually see F1 cars on the circuit:
- Marina Square Level 3 — Roof Garden: Best overall view of the circuit.
- Marina Square Level 2 — Near Pororo Park: Closer-feeling views of the cars, with slightly fewer people during my visit.
- Terrace near the Marina Square–Suntec City Link Bridge: A limited view of the straight, but quite crowded.
All three spots are within walking distance of each other.
If you only have time to visit one location, I’d recommend the Level 3 Roof Garden at Marina Square.
Here’s why.
1. Marina Square Level 3 Roof Garden — Best Overall Free F1 Viewing Spot

This was my favourite free viewing location during the 2026 Singapore Grand Prix.
From the Roof Garden on Level 3 of Marina Square, you can look down onto the street circuit and watch the F1 cars race past.
What makes this spot special is the viewing angle.
Instead of seeing the cars for just a split second, you can watch them travel along a straight section of the track.
Even better, you can also see the cars navigating a corner in the distance.
That makes the experience much more interesting, especially if you enjoy watching how the drivers handle different parts of the circuit.
And the sound!
Even from above, hearing an F1 car accelerate past you is an incredible experience.
How crowded was it?

There were plenty of people watching, but the Roof Garden has a relatively wide viewing area.
During my visit, spectators were spread out rather than concentrated in one tiny spot.
It was much easier to find somewhere to watch compared with some of the other locations I checked.
Best for: First-time F1 spectators, families, and anyone who wants a clear view of the cars without buying a ticket.
My verdict: The best combination of visibility, viewing space, and convenience.
How to Find the Marina Square Roof Garden

The Roof Garden is located on Level 3 of Marina Square.
However, finding the entrance isn’t necessarily straightforward. I didn’t see many obvious signs directing visitors to the Roof Garden.
Here’s the route I used:
- Head to Level 3 of Marina Square.
- Walk towards the restaurant area near Gain City and The Dining Edition.
- Look for Tenkaichi Japanese BBQ and SOFRA Turkish Café & Restaurant.
- Continue past SOFRA towards the outdoor Roof Garden.
If you’re visiting with a stroller, take the shopping mall elevator to Level 3 first.
Be aware that some parts of the Roof Garden have stairs, so check the accessible route before proceeding.
2. Marina Square Level 2 Near Pororo Park — Best for Feeling Closer to the Cars

If you want to feel a little closer to the action, the Level 2 viewing area near Pororo Park is another excellent option.
You can see roughly the same section of the circuit as you can from the Level 3 Roof Garden.
The main difference is the height.
Because you’re one floor lower, the cars feel closer as they race past.
And when an F1 car is travelling at over 300 km/h, that extra sense of proximity makes the experience even more exciting!
Was it crowded?

Interestingly, this particular Level 2 spot was slightly less crowded than the Level 3 Roof Garden when I visited.
That made it a comfortable place to watch.
However, crowd levels vary between different viewing areas on Level 2, so don’t assume the entire floor will be quiet.
Level 2 vs Level 3: Which Is Better?
Both are worth visiting, but they offer slightly different experiences.
Choose Level 3 if you want:
- A wider view of the circuit.
- To see both a straight and a distant corner.
- More space to move around while watching.
Choose Level 2 near Pororo Park if you want:
- A closer-feeling view of the cars.
- A more intense sense of speed.
- A potentially less crowded viewing area.
My recommendation: Start at Level 3, then head down to Level 2 to compare the views.
3. Terrace Near the Marina Square–Suntec City Link Bridge — Limited but Possible
There’s another free viewing spot along a terrace near the pedestrian link bridge connecting Marina Square and Suntec City.
From this terrace, you can look down onto a straight section of the Singapore F1 circuit.
And yes, I could actually see the cars racing past from here.

However, this location has one major disadvantage.
The area where you can see the track is quite limited.
When I visited, spectators were gathered along the railing, and it was difficult to get an unobstructed view if someone was standing in front of you.

For anyone visiting with a stroller, finding a comfortable viewing position could be challenging.
I wouldn’t make this my first choice.
But if you’re already exploring Marina Square and Suntec City, it’s worth checking out.
My verdict: You can see the cars, but the Level 2 and Level 3 viewing spots at Marina Square are better options.
Free Singapore F1 Viewing Spots That Didn’t Work in 2026
One of the biggest reasons I decided to check these locations myself was that so many online guides recommend places based on previous years.
Unfortunately, some of those recommendations didn’t work during the 2026 Singapore Grand Prix.
Here are the places I checked and what happened.
National Gallery Singapore — Rooftop Viewing Area Closed
Visited: October 8, 2026
The rooftop of the National Gallery Singapore has appeared in previous guides to free F1 viewing locations.
However, when I visited, the rooftop area facing the circuit was closed for an event.
That meant I couldn’t access that particular viewing area to watch the race for free.
I didn’t check every possible area of the building, so this finding applies specifically to the circuit-facing rooftop section.
My verdict: The rooftop area I checked wasn’t available for free F1 viewing in 2026.
National Library Building — Not Suitable for Families with Young Children

Visited: October 9, 2026
The National Library Building is another location frequently mentioned in online discussions about watching the Singapore Grand Prix for free.
Some guides recommend the upper floors for views towards the circuit.
I visited Levels 11 and 13 with my child to investigate.
However, security staff told me that children weren’t allowed inside the Lee Kong Chian Reference Library.
From outside the Reference Library on Level 13, I could see towards JW Marriott Hotel Singapore South Beach.
But I couldn’t confirm a suitable viewing point for the F1 circuit.

Adults may be able to access the Reference Library, subject to its rules, but I wasn’t able to verify whether the circuit is visible from inside.
My verdict: Not a recommended free F1 viewing location if you’re visiting with young children.
Suntec Convention Centre Level 3 — Windows Blocked by Barriers
I also checked Level 3 of the Suntec Convention Centre.
The building has large windows facing towards Marina Square, which initially made it look promising.
However, barriers had been placed along the windows, preventing people from gathering right next to them.
I also couldn’t get a clear view of the circuit.

My verdict: Not a useful free viewing location during my 2026 visit.
Esplanade Roof Terrace — Access Restrictions During F1 Weekend
The Esplanade Roof Terrace is another location that has been mentioned in previous free F1 viewing guides.
However, according to the venue’s official announcements, access to the Esplanade was restricted during the 2026 Singapore Grand Prix weekend.
The restrictions affected visitors without F1 tickets.
The children’s play space, PIP’s PLAYbox, was also scheduled to close from October 8–12, 2026.
I didn’t personally attempt to watch the race from the Esplanade Roof Terrace, so this information is based on the venue’s official announcements rather than my own visit.
My verdict: Don’t assume the Esplanade Roof Terrace will be accessible without an F1 ticket. Check the official announcements before visiting.
Official information: Esplanade — PIP’s PLAYbox
Can You Watch Singapore F1 for Free with a Stroller?
Yes! I explored these locations with my one-year-old son in a stroller.
In fact, I had also watched the Singapore Grand Prix for free from Marina Square in 2025, when my son was still a baby.
After visiting multiple spots this year, I realised that there’s a big difference between a place where you can see the cars and a place where you can comfortably watch them with a child.
A narrow viewing area might technically offer a good view, but if it’s crowded, it can be difficult to find space for a stroller.
That’s why I particularly liked Marina Square.
Why Marina Square Works Well for Families
1. You can take breaks indoors.
Singapore is hot and humid, and standing outside for a long time with a young child can be exhausting.
At Marina Square, you can easily return to the air-conditioned shopping mall between viewing sessions.
2. There are multiple viewing locations.
If one spot is too crowded, you can check another.
I particularly recommend comparing the Level 3 Roof Garden and the Level 2 terrace near Pororo Park.
3. You don’t have to commit to a full day of F1.
For families with young children, flexibility is important.
You can watch the cars for a while, take a break, and decide whether to return for another session.
A Few Things to Keep in Mind
Some outdoor areas have stairs, so not every route is stroller-friendly.
Also, these are public spaces rather than designated F1 spectator areas. Access and crowd conditions can change.
Always follow the venue’s instructions and avoid blocking walkways.
Tips for Watching the Singapore Grand Prix Without a Ticket
If you’re planning to watch the race from outside the official circuit, here are a few things worth knowing.
1. Check the F1 Session Schedule
The cars aren’t on the track continuously.
Depending on the day, there are practice sessions, qualifying sessions, a sprint race, or the main Grand Prix.
Check the official timetable before heading out, so you don’t arrive during a break between sessions.
Official schedule: Formula 1 — Singapore Grand Prix
2. Expect Heat and Humidity
Most of the viewing locations I visited were outdoors.
Bring water, dress comfortably, and take breaks when needed.
A small portable fan can make a big difference, especially if you’re travelling with children.
3. Don’t Expect Grandstand Views
Free viewing spots can offer a surprisingly exciting experience, but they’re not the same as watching from an official F1 grandstand.
You may have fences, trees, or other spectators partially blocking your view.
You also won’t necessarily be able to follow a large section of the race.
However, seeing a real F1 car fly past you and hearing the engine noise is exciting in its own right.
For anyone curious about Formula 1, it’s a great way to experience the atmosphere without committing to an expensive ticket.
4. Viewing Conditions Can Change
The locations in this article reflect what I personally observed during the 2026 Singapore Grand Prix weekend.
A spot that worked on Friday may become more crowded or have different access restrictions on Saturday or Sunday.
Similarly, locations that were available in previous years may no longer be accessible.
Always check the latest information and follow any signs or instructions at the venue.
Final Verdict: Where Should You Watch Singapore F1 for Free?
After exploring several locations around Marina Bay during the 2026 Singapore Grand Prix, Marina Square was the clear winner.
My top recommendation is the Level 3 Roof Garden, where you can watch F1 cars race along a straight and navigate a corner in the distance.
For a closer-feeling view, head to Level 2 near Pororo Park.
Both locations offer a genuinely exciting way to experience Formula 1 without purchasing a ticket.
And if you’re travelling with young children, having an air-conditioned shopping mall nearby makes the experience much more manageable.
Not every free viewing spot recommended online worked this year, which is exactly why I wanted to share what I actually found.
If you’re visiting Singapore during the Grand Prix and wondering whether you can see F1 cars without a ticket, Marina Square is where I’d start.
You might be surprised by just how much excitement you can experience for free!
This article is based on my visits on October 8–9, 2026. Viewing conditions, access restrictions, and crowd levels may change depending on the day and year.
